Pro Bono Bio plc is delighted to announce that 16 year old student Ely King, from Hartlepool has won the FLEXISEQ National Carers Award 2015.
Ely’s dedication to her mother, Donna, has been recognised by FLEXISEQ at the
LloydsPharmacy National Carers Awards 2015 organised by LloydsPharmacy and Carers UK. The youngest of six winners announced at a ceremony in London last night, Ely attended with Donna, both keen rugby enthusiasts, to collect the award from former Welsh rugby International captain and ex British & Irish Lion, Ryan Jones.
Ely was nominated by her mother for sacrificing much of her teenage life to always be there when she needed help, particularly during her battle with breast cancer and various other ailments including osteoarthritis.
Despite missing much of her education due to staying at home to care for Donna, Ely has successfully completed her GCSEs and is going on to study media at Brinkburn College.
Ely said, “It’s lovely to be awarded for something that I’ve done for as long as I can remember, without ever thinking of it as a chore. Everyone would be there for their mum if they needed to be.
“I’m also really pleased that this will create more publicity around young carers and the great job they do,” continued Ely.
